abandon dialect
recently there are some arugements on whether to keep dialect or not
MM suggested to go for mandrian n abandon dialect
it is true that with chinese u can talk to half of the world, with dialact u can only talk to 1/10 of tat number. but it is e dialect that draw ppl closer to each other.
if i know tat client knows dialect, i talk to them in dialect. else chinese then english. i dont like ang moh pai clients. cos they are not flexiable n are very demanding. the chinese / dialect pai 1 are more friendly and easy going.
my boss cant speak dialect, my lady boss can only speak a little.
for me, i dont support abandoning the language.
if u can cope with 3 languages, cope. if u good, 4 or 5. else juz stick to 2
chinese and english may b the median to communication. but if u cant use the language well, y not learn another language.
my friend love jap, korean, thai. he went for courses. i like hokkien but not many places for me to improve mine. but anyway at this moment, i too busy.
looking at the timetable, daily classes til 2 april. collapsing soon

encourage speak mandarin because it is a common medium to communicate among sg chinese or chinese visitors as not everyone can speak cantonese or hokkien or ..
so far dialects are only discouraged but not abandoned, parents can still let their children learn dialects if they can cope
